Hybrid Translation Method: Prompt Engineering and Cognitive Integration in Translator Training

Resumen

In this paper, a hybrid translation method is proposed that integrates the translator’s cognitive integration and prompt engineering. The primary objective is to enhance translation quality and align translator training with the demands of a professional field increasingly shaped by Generative AI. A three-phase process is outlined: first, the analysis, transfer, and pre-editing of the source text are addressed; second, the focus is placed on the use of prompts, including translator–model interaction and prompt refinement; third, post-editing is incorporated based on quality criteria appropriate to the text type, communicative function, and translation brief. The workflow begins with a cognitive phase where translational and linguistic knowledge guide human–machine collaboration. The process concludes with the translator’s evaluation and final decision regarding the output. Additionally, a functionalist template is included for prompt design that considers text type, purpose, audience, and language combination. Through this model, the aim is to support critical thinking, reduce overreliance on automation, and promote an active, reflective role for translators in AI-assisted environments.
